The Energy Stewardship Program provides grants of up to $1,000 to help lower utility bills. An additional $500 in matching funds is available to congregations who wish to accomplish larger scopes of work.
This program is the result of a Property Support study which noted considerable savings in energy costs could be achieved by implementing relatively simple measures, such as:
- replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents;
- upgrading emergency exit signs and fluorescent fixtures;
- installing motion/occupancy sensors, clock thermostats, and timers;
- replacing old appliances with more efficient models
In 2001, the Committee awarded 25 special grants to congregations under the Energy Stewardship Program.
